University Heating System Retrofit

A University had an existing system  that required insulation and corrosion protection.  The 112' section needed to be completed quickly so that the road could be opened.  The material was delivered at 6:30 AM and the installation was completed by 10:30 AM by the University personnel.

The largest insulation delivery system on the market.

Large projects demand it.  The Gilsulate® 500XR insulation system was chosen, in part,  because it is the most cost effective product available to insulate and protect underground piping systems.  The semi-bulk bag contains 60 cubic feet and remains the largest installation delivery system on the market, nearly twice as much as competitive products.  Gilsulate International, Inc.'s commitment to maintaining a leadership position in the market means your installation will be completed in the most efficient means available.

This envelope is formed with sheetrock and steel re-rod bars.	Pouring Gilsulate® 500XR from a 60 cubic foot semi-bulk bag. The crew is covering an unfinished section prior to the afternoon rains.	The crew is required to wear full face respirators in this refinery when working with Gilsulate 500XR and other products considered a nuisance dust. These are pictures of an installation at a hospital.  

 

The piping system is suspended in place on this project. This is the preferred method.	The expansion elbows and a specified distance from them, have fiber glass pipe insulation on them to absorb the expansion and flex in the piping system.	Here is a typical guide the keeps the pipe moving in a straight line toward the expansion elbow.	The piping system is suspended, formed and ready for insulation placement.
A bulkhead is temporarily placed for the crew to work up to prior to leaving for the day.  The bulkhead is removed prior to commencing work the next day.	The insulation is poured in "lifts" or layers.   The first layer is poured to the top of the pipe and consolidated with a wand-type vibrator.	The second lift is poured to the top of the pre-cut forms and vibrated.	A completed section prior to back fill.
